Welcome to Breathing in the Presence of God
Our eight-week spiritual journey begins on Monday, November 2, 2026, at 12:30 p.m. Central Time (Texas time). Each class will last approximately 75–90 minutes.
Together, we will read and discuss Will Johnson’s Breathing as Spiritual Practice: Experiencing the Presence of God. Johnson is a longtime teacher of embodied meditation whose work explores the relationship among breath, the body, spiritual awareness, and the Divine Presence. In this deeply personal book, he records what happened when he spent ten days in retreat in New Mexico, exploring a remarkable question:
What might we discover if we became fully conscious of God’s presence in every breath?
The book is available from Amazon in paperback and Kindle formats, and as an audiobook through Audible:
Breathing as Spiritual Practice: Experiencing the Presence of God
There is no reading assignment for our first meeting.
Instead, we will set the stage for the journey ahead. We will introduce Will Johnson and his approach to breath as spiritual practice, consider how his ideas relate to Science of Mind, and begin exploring the difference between merely thinking about God and experiencing the Divine Presence within ourselves. Over the following weeks, we will accompany Johnson through the journal of his retreat—ten extraordinary days during which he dared to become still, listen deeply, and allow himself to breathe and be breathed by God.
I will continue adding material, class information, and other interesting resources to this blog as our journey unfolds, so please visit again. Class workbook and worksheets will be published here along with videos and recordings.
If you know friends who might enjoy a contemplative book study exploring breath, Spirit, and the Presence within, please invite them to visit my website for more information:
